The website has continued to improve in slight ways. I’ve added event features and been developing an editorial section for the sake of more content depth. I want to do editorials based on my own experience to provide for those looking for particular things in our city. It’ll be based on things friends and family ask me about due to them knowing about this site and others I’m involved in.
I’ve also been very focused on further entertainment options. I started with nightlife and live music. I’ve moved on to theatre, more exact festivals and events. I’m hoping for 2008 to really produce results from this great project.
2008 is a promising new year for Best of Baton Rouge. The website is growing and people are noticing it more and more. Look for continued development, new additions and features. Probably the most anticipated by myself will be the Best of Baton Rouge Mobile Site
Best of Baton Rouge continues to develop to an ever improving local resource. We’ve continued focus on the calendar resource as well as adding small features to round out functionality. There’ve also been several new additions over 100 scheduled for inclusion. I’ve also been developing the all important search function. Early in the year look for articles, maps, mobile device resources and more in early 2008. Happy new year!
As all can see the website now offers everything you need to find something great in Baton Rouge. Events, nightlife, businesses, restaurants and more are available. Automated systems keep everything up to date and fresh.
Over 100 Individual Entries
Believe it or not when you actually sit down and begin to document things in your environment it’s not quite that easy. However Best of Baton Rouge has grown to over 100 individual local quality listings. Picking out things that give real quality to your city make it take time. I have over 100 more items written down for addition and I try to do a few every day. Now that much of the base functionality is implemented I’ll move to add those.
I’ve finished writing my calendar system. Right now you can see a link from the front page which lists the events stored for the given month. I’m hoping to detail 150-300 monthly events from around town.
I’ve written enough of the back end components to begin developing self-updating components such as the monthly updates and pages that show items around a given time of year. I’ve a list of around 40 things that I want to add to go in with my present 70 or so items. Not many I know but it takes time to develop and add content while balancing design clients and a day job. Not to mention all of my other insane hobbies.
Please please write me with any additions you may have. I’ll begin quizzing family and friends due to my tendency to be biased to things that are popular with people in their 20’s.
The content system for the index has been developing. Unfortunately when you have to balance a day job with existing consulting clients and find time to work on your sites it takes time.
The index is now automated in displaying upcoming events. The algorithm for what to display is conceptually down but it hasn’t been programmed completely.(so you may still see events that have passed). Backend compontents for balancing the output have been put in place. By the end of 2007 Best of Baton Rouge should begin to show how extremely useful it is.
The front page has undergone a few changes for the sake of setting up a useful front end. The thinking is to display data not only by category but also employing a date based algorithm that I’ve been programming when I can for the last month now. Voting has also already been written into the code so there will be functionality for displaying based on that data.
Progress is happening and I’m confident that in the next few months the site will fully take on a life of it’s own. Once the information is fully integrated I can concentrate on the fine points of putting what is best in Baton Rouge up.
Best Service Businesses
If you know of great businesses please sign up at this website blog and submit a comment with that business and why. I want to let people know about the best places for important services we don’t always know the answers to. Auto repair, Home repair, heating & air, roofing, tree services, etc. All are always a crap shoot when finding them.
Been really busy working on how it works in the back. Custom software takes time especially when you’ve got lots of ideas.(and a day job) However the system is developing and should be very useful for the residents of Baton Rouge before long.
The focus of bestofbatonrouge.com development is now on working out the details of the category structure.
