For around 60 years now Cal's bakery has been serving some of the best donuts and cakes you'll find anywhere. I might be a little biased because I grew up on Cal's and used to walk there to get their baked goodies as a kid. Happily to this day they're serving some of the best baked treats in the Baton Rouge metro area from their cozy little location in Gonzales Louisiana.

For me the donuts have always been great especially the chocolate donuts which are completely coated not just the top part. It makes all the difference in the world and I'm so spoiled from it I can't order chocolate donuts any other place.

The candies such as the brownies, fudge drops and sand tarts are outstanding. I can remember getting hold of a little money and running to Cal's to get some of the candies out of the showcase their cash register sat on.

As kids we'd always request the Cal's Dobash cakes. They're excellent and we couldn't wait to get their chocolate dobash on our birthdays.

If you find yourself on Burnside in Gonzales go check them out. It's a cornerstone of the Gonzales community and a great place.
